ASC Statement on Protests Following the Deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor

Categories: Blog
The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor over a matter of months have left residents in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and across the country hurt, shaken and angry.
These deaths have not just reopened old injuries; rather, they have revealed deep, festering wounds that have been ignored or too quickly forgotten after prior acts of injustice.
We are heartbroken that Black lives continue to be taken too soon because of authority figures, structures and systems that have not valued those lives.
ASC is a voice for the cultural community, which is comprised of artists, musicians, historians, scientists and other creative organizations and individuals. ASC is committed to examining, expressing and celebrating the human experience.
Art has a unique ability to shine light on injustice and bring people together to heal in the most difficult of times. ASC remains committed to ensuring Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s cultural community brings people together, in a safe way, during this time of pain and grief to create change.

Don White Digital Forums - Mondays, 2 pm

Don White has been running a free forum on Mondays at 2 PM EST that explores the digital options available to artists & venues now, how they can connect with audiences...and make money.

Don conducts these forums via Zoom. and presents things he has learned...usually in the past week!! ( as things are developing so quickly)....and he has experts discussing their experiences Last week engineer Brian Doser taught how to connect with Facebook Live and Youtube Live, walked through his technical setup and studio where, among other things , he does a weekly show for preschoolers. Next week his guest will be Mayra Diaz from Lone Star Storytelling Festival, who will be talking about, among other things, how storytellers can connect with libraries who are looking for professional digital programming, ..and may have the funding to pay for it.

The forum is very popular, and includes tellers, musicians, venues, media, etc who share how they are dealing with the challenges of not being able to tour and what they have learned. It is a real sharing of ideas and solutions.
AND... it is timely and up to the minute - the cutting edge of what people are experiencing and how they are dealing with it. We invite you to attend, and share the information with anyone in your world that might find this forum useful.

In addition, Don is doing fundraising concerts every Thursday night for struggling venues. The concerts are free. Donations are accepted, and any monies raised are shared between Don and the venue. There is also a Q & A session with Don after the show.

If you would like an access code and password for the Forum, please write me - If you are inter in the zoom access code, email me: - and we will provide them. Also, if you are interested in exploring Don's Thursday fundraising concerts, just let me know.
Wishing you all the best.

Healing Story Alliance Weekly Gathering

Keeping our Oars in the Water:

Gathering to bear witness to experiences and stories

of vulnerability and resilience during these turbulent times.

When a small boat meets turbulent water, the best way to maintain balance and stay upright is to keep your oar in the water. It will become your stabilizing rudder, enabling you to maintain course and steer your vulnerable craft towards safety. We are each like that small boat.

HSA hopes that sharing our experiences, stories and ideas might be another stabilizing oar in the water for each of us. Please join us.

WHAT: Please join HSA members and other storytellers for an evening of listening to each other; a chance to “keep our oars in the water” through being heard or witnessing your peers in the experiences, stories, ideas that have emerged through this time of COVID-19.  NOTE: this is not a therapeutic circle, but we do hope that it will be healing, supportive, informative, inspiring.

HOW: Each Wednesday at 7:00 PM EDT there will be a facilitated gathering to create a holding space to share the experiences and stories that have emerged through this turbulent time.

WHEN: Our gatherings will be on Wednesday evenings 7:00 to 8:30PM PM EDT

Hold the dates: Wednesdays at 7:00 on April 29, May 6, 13, 20 and 27

WHERE: For more information or to get a Zoom link to join the call, kindly contact Lani Peterson ( Once you have the link, it will remain the same for all meetings.   Future opportunities to co-facilitate a meeting are available. Please let us know if you are interested.

These gatherings are offered by the Healing Story Alliance as a service to our Community without charge. Please join us!
